Geotechnical Data & Soil Modeling

In the course of the preparation for a windpark, direct measurement of soil properties, e.g. by cone penetration tests (CPT) and by sampling are crucial, even if a high-resolution seismic data set is available. The one reason is the calibration of the seismic data and the seismic interpretation, so that properties can be assigned to seismic units over a larger area. The other aspect is the fact, that during the planning phase the layout of wind mill is defined relatively late to make use of technological improvement, which may lead to alrger turbines, higher towers, a reduced number of windmills, larger distances and the shift of positions. It cannot be ensured that early ground truthing data are really located at a WEA position, but the C<PT/borehole information rather needs to be extrapolated.
