3D Baltic Sea Pockmarks

On R/V  Alkor Cruise AL446, two areas with seafloor depressions were surveyed with seismic and acoustic data. Typically, such features are related to gas release, which, however, would be quite unusual for the Arkona Basin. While deep gas reservoir are known from earlier hydrocarbon exploration, surface indication have not been found.

The dedicated survey grid was intended to search for anomalies close to the seafloor such as shallow gas accumulations or carbonate conretions.
