Aurelia 2004 was the first of a series of cruises which were carried out to support BGR with high-reoslution seismic data serving the project GPDN (Geopotenzaile Deutsche Nordsee). The objective was to collect multichannel seismic data imaging the upper 1-2 seconds TWT covering the late Tertiary and Quaternary within the German EEZ (exclusive economic zone) in the North Sea.
The MTU contribution led to a collection of multichannel seismic lines acquired with the new single hydrophone streamer (48 channels) and on this cruise with a Sodera S15 Watergun, providing signal frequencies up to 1500 Hz. Only with such data, the uppermost 100 m can be properly imaged, which vonectional streamers with 6.25. to 25 m group length are not suitable.
These complementary data were later used within GPDN to create soil characterization cross-section across the whole German North Sea.
BGR seismic data can be found here.
